White Castle Burgers (Made at Home)

My family used to live close to White Castle. It was one of our favorite places to grab a quick meal. Now we live over an hour away from the closest White Castle. My husband loves the frozen White Castle burgers you can find in our local grocery store, but lets face it, they are rather expensive for just a few burgers. I searched the web and looked for a close recipe that would taste the same.

As with all recipes, It takes some time and your own special touches until you get it just right and to your own liking.

Here is what you need:

1 1/2 pounds hamburger
1 package onion soup mix
1/2 tablespoon peanut butter
1/2 cup milk
1 onion (finely chopped)
Dinner Rolls
Cheese slices
Pickles (optional)
Ketchup (optional)

Aluminum Foil
Cookie Sheet
Large Bowl
Sharp Knife or Pizza cutter

Prep Time: 10 Minutes
Cooking Time: Approx. 35 minutes

Here is how you made them:

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Start by mixing the hamburger, onion soup mix, peanut butter, and milk in a large bowl.  Take a cookie sheet and cover it in aluminum foil. This will help with clean up later. Spread the meat mixture on the cookie sheet. Using a rolling pin or the back of a spoon smooth out the meat until it is a thin layer covering the entire cookie sheet.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes. Don’t forget to start the timer. Finely chop the onion while waiting for the timer. When you take the cookie sheet out you will see the meat starting to shrink. Take the finely chopped onions and put them all around the edges of the meat.

Put the cookie sheet back into the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes to soften the onions and let all the flavors combine. Set the timer. Get your favorite cheese from the fridge. I used regular american cheese from our local deli. You can use any America cheese you want including the prepackage cheeses at the grocery store. Remove the cookie sheet from the oven.Take the onions from around the edges of the meat and put them all over the top of the meat. Layer the meat with the cheese slices.

Put the cookie sheet back into the oven and bake for an additional  7-10 minutes. Just until the cheese is melted. Cut your rolls and put them to the side. Make sure you check on the oven because you don’t want the cheese to burn.
Take the cookie sheet out of the oven. Slice the meat with a sharp knife or pizza cutter. Put together you burgers and enjoy!
